Sloane serves on the Care Team and is Co-Chair of the Fundraising Team for Purposeful Living Inc. She is passionate about people becoming the best versions of themselves – and she believes helping people to connect in thoughtful, intentional, authentic, safe forums has the power to change lives and trajectories for individuals and organizations.
How does your role help contribute to the growth and success of Engage Mentoring?
As the Operations Director, I focus on ensuring our customer experience processes and collaborations are the very best they can be so that everyone involved with Engage Mentoring gets the most value they can from our platform and programs.
Coffee or tea? Black or milk and sugar?
Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea or decaf coffee blended with hazelnut or cinnamon cappuccino or creamer.
What causes do you care about?
Encouraging and empowering women, especially through the work of Purposeful Living INC; coming alongside young people in foster care as they develop life skills and find career directions to become successful adults through Pink Leaf: A Learning Company; and caring for our earth through sustainability practices such as recycling, supporting local businesses, solar energy and more.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Why does it resonate with you?
Some of the best advice I was ever given as a professional woman striving for excellence at work and as a parent was to recognize that my children would need me more in their teenage years than when they were younger. I am finding this to be true and have made career choices to reflect this advice.
What book or movie do you always recommend?
Reading books with your children – no matter what age they are – is something I highly recommend. I learn so much about my children’s interests and share special quiet time with each one individually when we incorporate this into our nightly routines. We read fiction and non-fiction and sometimes they share their own creations with me. These are some of the most cherished times of my days.
What animal best represents you?
Wow, I had to give this question quite a bit of thought. I love dogs and have an affinity for black bears, yet I also have a special regard for cows as well. So I looked up the symbolism for each of these animals and feel each represents me well – the dog as one who is friendly, loyal, adaptable, affectionate, protective, sensitive, purposeful and full of joy; the black bear who is strong, courageous and thoughtful; and the cow who represents female power, potential, growth and nurturing.
Do you like listening to music or podcasts while you work? What is your favorite?
I don’t regularly listen to music or podcasts while I work, though when I do it is Christian music, NPR or podcasts recommended by friends and colleagues.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
As I continue to recognize how life-transforming higher education has been in my life, and how grateful I am that this was valued by my mother whose upbringing did not place much importance on education, I would have to say that earning a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology is my proudest accomplishment.
