Lamya Cruz, Partnership Coordinator

Cruz recognized an opportunity to engage in the progression of diversity amplification, knowledge transfer, and the advancement of career opportunities for minorities. Therefore, Cruz founded and launched— The Workout Session, a live and virtual monthly moderated conversation for creatives and entrepreneurs to discuss topics including burnout, social media, authenticity, purpose, and personal branding. In her spare time, Cruz enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.

How does your role help contribute to the growth and success of Engage Mentoring?

I assist my team as a Partnership Coordinator for the Project Lead Women Mastermind. Right now, my role includes but is not limited to, social engagement, assisting our Partnerships Director, client support, and research.

Coffee or tea? Black or milk and sugar?

Herbal tea for the win! Preferably with honey, a dash of vanilla almond creamer, and cinnamon. Some days, I prefer nothing in it at all, especially if it is citrus/floral tea.

What causes do you care about?

Black Lives Matter, The National Association for Advancement of Colored People, Stop APPI Hate, Hispanic Access Foundation, The Transgender District, Intersectional Environmentalist, National Alliance for Mental Illness, Wheeler Mission Ministries (Homeless shelters), Coburn Place, Girls On the Run, and the Lupus Foundation of America.

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given? Why does it resonate with you?

Gratitude is accessible to anyone, at any time. It is just a good reminder to show up in life with gratitude, because it is the key to truly living a joyful and peaceful existence.

What book or movie do you always recommend?

I just finished the book Letting Go: The Pathway to Surrender by David R. Hawkins, and I highly recommend it to everyone. I would sum it up as transformative.

What animal best represents you?

I feel a cat represents me best.

Do you like listening to music or podcasts while you work? What is your favorite?

I love listening to both! But jazz music when I am working puts me in my zone.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is finishing my undergraduate in less than a year.
