Each quarter, Engage Mentoring conducts a LIVE event featuring successful leaders across the country who share their perspective on leadership and mentoring. Recently, I, Alison Martin, had the great pleasure of interviewing Mike Baer, Chief People Development Officer with EmployBridge, for our Engage Mentoring LIVE session.
In his role as Chief People Development Officer for the largest industrial staffing company in the U.S., Mike Baer helps build EmployBridge’s reputation as an employer of choice by attracting, retaining, and developing the best possible talent. Mike and his team lead the company’s people development functions, including salesforce effectiveness, employee training, internal leadership building, and employee communications.
As a 20-year company veteran, Mike is responsible for strengthening EmployBridge’s distinctive culture, while reinforcing the values that guide the company in connecting great people with extraordinary jobs. He is a passionate advocate for the company’s temporary associates, employees, and customers.
As the driving force behind the EmployBridge Leadership Institute, Mike recently updated the program to boost employee engagement by sharpening alignment of the company’s values, culture, operating principles, and processes. As a result, EmployBridge scored in the top 10 decile of McKinsey’s Organizational Health Index, a benchmark survey measuring an organization’s health against peer companies.
Since joining EmployBridge in 1998, Mike has held a wide range of key positions, including Chief Lean Officer, where he achieved significant cost reductions, while improving operating efficiencies. From 2008 to 2011, he was Southern Regional Vice President.
Mike began his staffing career with TRC Staffing upon graduating from Flagler College, St. Augustine, FL, and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has also studied at the University of Tennessee, the University of South Carolina, and Columbia International University. In addition to being employed at EmployBridge, Mike is the Founder and Executive Director of International Micro-Enterprise Development, a nonprofit focused on alleviating poverty in the developing world.
