Interview with a Leader – Courtney Simpkiss
Each quarter, we conduct an Engage Mentoring LIVE event featuring successful leaders across the country sharing their perspective on leadership and mentoring. I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Courtney Simpkiss for our recent Engage Mentoring LIVE session.
Courtney is Gibson’s Chief Growth Officer (CGO) and part of the executive leadership team. She drives overall revenue, profitability, and growth. Courtney has a passion for helping organizations and individuals achieve their goals. She intuitively understands how Strategy, Client Experience, Marketing, Sales, Product, and Finance intersect to create profitability not only for Gibson but the clients they serve. The employee benefits consultants and commercial risk advisor teams Courtney leads help their clients find their edge when it comes to keeping their employees healthy and safe and their communities better. Courtney is a leader with a balanced focus on the human condition and business results.
Courtney has made curiosity a key leadership trait that has served her and others she’s mentored and developed. Before being promoted CGO, Courtney joined Gibson in 2018 as the Indianapolis Market Leader and Director of Business Development for Employee Benefits and Commercial Risk. Prior to joining Gibson, she held a variety of roles at ADP for almost 14 years both in sales and operations. She serves her community through a variety of non-profit volunteer committee and board roles focused on the safety and education of children
We spoke about feeling fulfilled and valued in our jobs and the ability to speak freely and communicate needs to other leaders in the company. Courtney cited Dare to Lead by Brené Brown as a favorite book of hers, which has a companion workbook that you can follow along with to work through any challenges you may be having in courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. You can check out this book and the workbook here.
